There have been many photos of kids going back to school on social media in the past few weeks. It’s great to see everyone’s children growing up and changing. Here at Redwood Sky we don’t really have a first day of school, because we are just living and incorporating our learning all year round. When we first started homeschooling seven years ago we were much more traditional in our approach, but like everything in life that has evolved and changed over time. We live our lives following our passions and experiencing the world around us now, and that is pretty sweet.
This week we will be going to the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. Maybe that should be our first day of school photo? 🙂 We always go at the end of the summer, because the first year we started homeschooling we wanted our experience to start out crazy and full of fun. This year is pretty special too. Story has been waiting to be tall enough to ride all of the rides and now he has reached that goal.
As we continue this journey incorporating education into our daily life, I can’t wait to see what will unfold this year. When we first started, this open way of thinking was scary and I questioned it having been a teacher in a traditional public school setting. Now it feels amazing to embrace and observe Kai and Story outside and free. You can learn in an organic, fluid way through a life immersed in nature, technology, and adventures. It is possible and pretty amazing.
